DAY BY DAY

Your day-by-day plan

  1. 01

Day 1 · Arrival and a short local walk.

  2. 02

Day 2 · Reserved palace or museum visit; a relaxed afternoon nearby.

  3. 03

Day 3 · A Great Wall day or a confirmed Miyun excursion—not both.

  4. 04

Day 4 · One park and a hutong walk, with time for lunch and photographs.

  5. 05

Day 5 · Departure without a distant excursion.

Choose your version of autumn

Decide whether foliage or heritage is the priority. Use the better-weather day for an outdoor excursion and secure timed heritage visits first if history matters most. Beijing’s autumn programme supplies activity leads; it cannot guarantee leaf colour on your chosen date.

One direction for your excursion

Give the Great Wall its own day and choose the section around mobility and transport. A Miyun event is an alternative excursion, not automatically an add-on to any Wall visit. Check shuttle availability, weather and return arrangements before committing.

Give the city a human scale

Build a palace day around one substantial visit, then rest or take a nearby walk. In hutongs, residents come before photography: stay out of private courtyards and keep doorways clear. A short walk with a seated lunch can explain city life better than a rushed checklist.

Check the event, not just the attraction

The city lists a Miyun food-culture festival window of 26 September–30 October. That window does not establish the same daily programme. Confirm the specific venue and participation rules before changing hotels or buying transport for an event.

Budget, layers and extending the trip

Ask for separate prices for guiding, transport, tickets, cable cars, hotels and meals. Five days are not enough for an in-depth Beijing–Xi’an–Shanghai tour. Add nights for another city and protect the departure buffer. Include airports and children’s ages so transfers and pacing can be designed properly. Check tripod rules, keep narrow steps clear and agree a return meeting point before an excursion.
