Xi’an & Luoyang in seven days: a slower heritage journey
A flexible autumn–winter plan that gives cave art, museums and transfers their own time.
TourGoo Editorial · Planning guide

DAY BY DAY
Your day-by-day plan
- 01
Day 1 · Arrive in Xi’an; settle in with an optional neighbourhood walk.
- 02
Day 2 · Terracotta Warriors as the principal outing; rest after returning.
- 03
Day 3 · City wall and old-town neighbourhoods; one reserved museum if practical.
- 04
Day 4 · Rail to Luoyang, hotel check-in and an optional old-town walk.
- 05
Day 5 · Longmen Grottoes, with walking distance adapted to your party.
- 06
Day 6 · Focus on White Horse Temple. From 19 October 2026, do not schedule Luoyang Museum admission; choose another museum only after confirming access and reservations.
- 07
Day 7 · Departure, with a transfer planned around your confirmed ticket.
Why this order works
Stay three nights in Xi’an, then three in Luoyang. This is a TourGoo planning proposal, informed by Ctrip’s destination information and an older two-city travel account—not a reproduction of that traveller’s spring itinerary. Arrival and departure count within the seven days. Fix your international gateways and hotels before arranging timed museum visits.
Make Longmen more than a photo stop
Keep Longmen as the main visit of its day. Look at the landscape first, then the differences between caves and individual carvings. The archive photographs show the place, not today’s conditions. A night photograph is not evidence of current evening admission. Check open areas and last entry separately.

Museums, temples and meals
Luoyang Museum closes from 19 October 2026 for renovation expected to take around a year. Reopening requires a new official announcement. Consider the Ancient Tombs, Erlitou or Grand Canal museums after confirming their access and reservations. Secure a museum reservation before fixing that day. If unavailable, choose a confirmed alternative rather than promising a special entry channel. Give White Horse Temple a separate half-day and respect worshippers. Choose meals near the day’s visits; share dietary needs beforehand so your adviser can confirm suitable dishes.
Transfers and sensible extensions
Compare direct rail options but include both station transfers and waiting time. A headline train duration is not a hotel-to-hotel promise. To add Shaolin, extend the trip or replace a Luoyang day rather than stacking three distant visits together. Temple access, performances and mountain walking require separate checks.

Before you send your enquiry
Autumn and winter need different outdoor pacing. Tell us how long your party can comfortably walk and stand, not just whether everyone is mobile. Include dates, group size, guide language, two priority interests and hotel preferences in your enquiry. Do not email passport numbers or card details; price and terms require written confirmation. Start local walks near your hotel and choose the day’s key exhibits in advance to avoid backtracking.
